LANAP therapy – an effective alternative to traditional gum surgery. Periodontal disease is sweeping the nation – more than 80% of Americans are affected. And only 3% of these patients seek treatment. Why? Because people are afraid of going under the knife and suffering through a long and painful recovery. Thanks to periodontal laser treatment, such patients now have an acceptable and safer alternative that promises to improve the sad statistics in the coming years significantly.

What is LANAP?

LANAP stands for laser-assisted new attachment procedure, also referred to as laser-assisted regeneration. It is the latest therapy for periodontitis that, unlike traditional gum surgery, is aimed at regeneration of the tissue rather than resection. Laser gum treatment allows to target the abscesses directly and kill the bacteria that causes the disease. During the procedure, the doctor uses a laser device to remove the infected epithelium of the periodontal pocket, leaving the healthy gum, tooth, and bone tissue attached and undamaged. The main difference between the traditional and laser gum surgery is that the latter is less invasive. The doctor uses a laser instead of a scalpel, so there are no incisions that need to be stitched up afterward.

5 benefits of LANAP treatment

Ignoring periodontitis and leaving it untreated is very dangerous. The disease can lead to receding gums, bone, and tooth loss. 65 Broadway Dental provides laser-assisted regeneration in Manhattan at affordable prices. Request an appointment today to take the disease under control and take advantage of the many benefits LANAP therapy has to offer:

  • Less pain

No incisions and no sutures mean less discomfort during and after the procedure. The surgery is performed under local anesthesia.

  • Quick recovery time

Except for severe cases, all patients can return to their ordinary daily activities right after the procedure. The full recovery period is just 24 hours – incredibly short compared to traditional scalpel surgery, where the recovery takes 2-4 weeks.

  • Minimal gum recession

Cutting gums causes the tissue to shrink, showing more of the root of your teeth. No cuts – no recession. With LANAP, the tissue stays intact.

  • Regeneration Promotion

Unlike traditional surgery, laser therapy stimulates the body’s natural healing response. So your dentist will not have to apply foreign “growth factors.” Additional bonuses of using laser – less bleeding and swelling.

  • Long-term results

LANAP treatment can save and fully restore the functionality of teeth, even in the most hopeless cases. The results in terms of tissue attachment and bone regeneration are more predictable and long-term compared to the traditional approach.

What is the procedure like?

During your first visit, our dentist will examine your mouth and take x-rays to give you an accurate diagnosis and determine the extent of the issue. You will then be presented with treatment options. If you choose to do LAR in our NYC clinic, you will then return for your scheduled surgery that takes 1-2 hours. The doctor will give you a local anesthetic and begin the procedure.
